Barb is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor living in
Wichita, Kansas. She completed an Associate of Arts degree from
St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas, and her Bachelor of
Science degree in Education at Concordia University, Seward,
Nebraska. After being a teacher for 14 years, she earned her
Master’s degree in Counseling at Wichita State University.
While Barb has lived in Wichita for the past 20 years, she
lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Beatrice, Nebraska and New
Orleans, Louisiana before coming to Wichita. She is a member of
the American Counseling Association, South Central Kansas
Counseling Association, the Association for Play Therapy and
the Kansas Association for Play Therapy.
Barb has been a school counselor
for the past 8 years and has been a Licensed Professional
Counselor for the past 2 ½ years. She completed requirements to
become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in 2008. Barb
started a Comprehensive School Counseling Program in the
Remington School District in Kansas and also at Holy Cross
Lutheran Church and School in Wichita. She was also working in
Private Practice at Holy Cross during her tenure there.
Barb believes in the inherent
good in people and believes that we strive to be the best that
we can be throughout life. Counseling is a wonderful, positive
tool that she uses to interact and work with those who need
help at different times in their lives. Barb finds that the
counseling relationship itself is very important and her faith
guides her through each counseling experience.
Barb has worked with children,
adolescents and adults in past years and currently works with
children of all ages and their families in a school setting.
Barb is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and has had
great success with children’s ability to express and process
through use of toys, sand tray, art, music, books. When
children can’t tell us verbally how they feel or what they are
thinking for many reasons, they are able to show and tell us
through the various techniques, toys, and medium used in Play
Therapy. Barb continues study and involvement in the field of
Brain Development, using a Neurosequential Brain Development
Model in her work. Being familiar with this model allows Barb
to understand and know what tools to use at different child
developmental levels. Barb’s approach is “Child Centered” and
“Experiential” which allows her to focus on each child and
experience the process with a very diverse population.
Barb provides therapy for
children, adolescents, and adults for depression, anxiety,
grief and loss, trauma, self-esteem and self-confidence
concerns, emotion control and management, communication, and
problem solving. She also works with small groups. Barb
considers and works with the culture and diversity of family
members along with her client.
